What is Scrolls?

Scrolls is a judgement-free place to collect and share moments, things you like, or thoughts. 

Social media sites have become too high-pressure and contain a lot of stuff you don’t want to see. They also feel sterile and are owned by people who harvest your data.

Scrolls believes in giving you the power to customize everything. Each scroll you make is like a folder for any topic or theme. You can fill each scroll with posts and customize their aesthetic. You can even have scrolls within scrolls. Or scrolls within scrolls within scrolls. 

Instead of following your profile, people can choose which of your scrolls they’d like to follow.

Less pressure, more expression

I have a friend named Theo. Theo has cool outfit pics. Theo loves his pet cat Simon. Theo also has many political opinions. I like Theo’s outfit pics. I don’t need to see Simon every day. And I could pass on his political stuff.

On Scrolls, Theo has an “OOTD” scroll where he posts a daily mirror selfie. He’s also got a “cat picsss” scroll filled with photos and videos of Simon. And he’s got a scroll with political article links and his commentary. Instead of following Theo, I can choose which of Theo’s scrolls to follow. I’ll definitely follow Theo’s OOTD scroll, but not his cat scroll or political scroll.

As for myself, sometimes I want to post a song, a movie recommendation, or a picture of my shrimp tank. However, I don’t want to spam all of my Instagram followers with shrimp photos. Thankfully, on Scrolls, I have a Shrimp Scroll, which is only followed by shrimp enthusiasts. Finally, I have a place to post daily shrimp content.

The Sacred Scrolls

Scrolls also has a couple core beliefs about the internet and our place in it.

1. One is that the internet lost a lot of its soul as platforms became so limited and standardized. Scrolls believes in giving people real customizability. If you want to make your profile look cute, you should be able to make it look cute. If you want it to be insane and illegible, you should be able to do that too.

2. Two is that social media doesn’t need to be controlled by a large corporation anymore. Scrolls was built by one person. Even if Scrolls had millions of users, it would not need to grow much. Scrolls will never be controlled by investors. It will never sell your data. Nor will it use your data to train AI. And it will never sell to Meta.
